Ch. FELICITY Int.Ch. FELICIA Ch. FLAME

We have been in whippets since 1963, but only 5 litters have been bred here - all based on the best English bloodlines.

Six whippets from our first 2 litters are shown as adults; FILBERT, FELICIA, FOREMAN, FELICITY and FLAME are Champions and BOB winners - every BOB followed by Group placings/wins/BIS placings, and FREEMAN, who is a res-CC and a res Best-Dog-winner.

In our third litter all 5 were very successful in puppy classes, but only FAIRMAN and FIELDMAN are shown as adults and both are placed in open. FRESHMAN, the most outstanding, was accidentally killed by a car.

FLASHMAN and FLAMIE - litter no. 4 born Oct. '79 - have 1 BOB resp., 3 BOB, Group 4, Best Sighthound at puppy-shows/matches. FLASHMAN won res-CC and res-BD at his first Championship show at 9 months of age. FLAMIE won junior, as well as open, at her only Championship show so far.

Our youngest puppies were born in April, 1980 and some of them are shown at puppy-shows. FANCYMAN - 3 BOB, Best Sighthound; FERRYMAN - BOS (to FLAMIE); FORGEMAN - BOB, Best in Group, BIS-2; FREEDMAN - BIS-2 and FELINITY - BOB, Best in Group, BIS.

We have had the pleasure to show some of our whippets under American judges in breed or group competition. Felicia was Group-4 under Mrs. Cynthia Guzevich and at Stockholm Int. 1979, at almost 9 years old, BIS-3 veteran under Mr. Maxwell Riddle. Flashman's res-CC was won under Mr. Tom Rainey, who also placed Fieldman in open.

We also race our whippets (280, 300, 480 or 500m oval sand-tracks).

Ch. FLAME - 51 races = 45 firsts, 5 seconds and 18 track records!!

FIREMAN - 43 races = 29 firsts, 11 seconds, 2 thirds and 3 track records.

Winner of the Swedish Racing Championship (500m) and the Swedish

Whippet Derby (300m) both 1979 and 1980!! FAIRMAN - many, many wins and fine placings,

he was runner-up in the Championship in 1979 and no. 5 in 1980. One track record. Fairman is a very small dog.

A fall litter is planned out of Ch. FLAME. Inquiries welcome!

The American Whippet Club

The first 50 years of the American Whippet Club has become history. To continue to work toward the best interests of the Whippet, let's see where we have been and where we are going.

The American Whippet Club, Inc. is a non-profit parent club of the Breed, and is a member club of the American Kennel Club. It was founded in 1930 on the east coast and has grown to well over 200 members nationwide. The object of the Club is:

a. to unite those people interested in the breeding, showing, racing, coursing and generally improving the breed of Whippet for the purpose of exerting effectually a combined influence upon all matters affecting the breed;

b. to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Whippets shall be judged;

c. to promote and maintain a high standard of conduct in the transaction of all business connected with the breeding of the Whippet;

d. to conduct sanctioned matches, obedience trials and specialty shows under the rules of the American Kennel Club.

As we look back over the Club's past 50 years, we can see progress in all areas. There are more active members than ever before, the quality of Whippets competing in all areas is more uniform and generally of higher quality. Whippet activities now extend across the entire country, in the form of interest and events.

The AWC Newsletter is published on a monthly basis informing the membership of important show and race dates, results, and articles of interest to the Whippet fancy. In addition the AWC Annual is published. One year subscriptions are available by writing our editor: Mrs Pat Dresser, 1462 Granger Road , Medina, Ohio 44256 .

AWC memberships are open to persons over eighteen years of age who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and subscribe to the purposes of the American Whippet Club. An applicant for membership should be an owner and/or breeder of Whippets for at least two years. Each applicant must complete an application providing information on their background in Whippets. After the applicant's name is published in the AWC Newsletter, the application is then reviewed by the AWC Board of Directors at the next Board meeting. Membership applications are available by writing our Secretary/Treasurer: Ms Carol Willumsen, 124 Vanderbilt Boulevard , Oakdale, New York 11769 .

The American Whippet Club conducts three specialties each year, with one

in the East, Midwest and West. The AWC also approves several supported entry shows in each region in order to build major entries and encourage fanciers to gather. Specialty organization and approval for supported entries are coordinated on a re gional level by the Regional Show Coordinator, appointed on a yearly basis by the AWC.

The AWC approves Official Rules and Regulations for National Whippet Racing for the conduct of over 40 National Point Race Meets each year throughout the United States and Canada. AWC Award of Racing Merit Certificates are presented to those outstanding Whippets who accumulate fifteen or more points in officially approved race meetings. Operation of approved Whippet race meetings is carried out by local AWC members or local Whippet clubs who request permission to operate an official meeting. Information on Whippet racing may be obtained by writing the National

Racing Secretary: Mr Robert Theiss, 115 Chatwood Terrace, St Louis. Missouri 63126

Club members whose Whippets earn their championship or an obedience degree are presented AWC certificates. In addition, a Certificate of Achievement is awarded to those individuals (members as well as non-members) who have made significant accomplishments in the Breed. Only 6 Certificates of Achievement have been awarded so far.

The membership of the American Whippet Club determines the overall direction of the Breed and its activities. Changes in the Whippet Standard and Constitution and By-Laws require a two-thirds favorable vote by the membership in good standing. Changes in the Official Rules and Regulations for National Point Whippet Racing are effected by the Racing Rules Committee.

General management of the AWC's affairs is entrusted to the Board of Directors. The Board is made up of nine members, all in good standing and U.S. residents. Three of these Directors are elected each year for three-year terms. The Board elects officers each year from their own number.

The American Whippet Club has been a guiding influence in the progress of our Breed for the past 50 years. The success of the AWC is due to the strengths of its individual members to promote the objectives of the Club. Each member should feel a sense of responsibility, striving for achievement of their own personal goals and the goals of the Club. We all can contribute locally, regionally and nationally.

In such case, the suspension shall not re strict the defendant's right to appear before his fellow-members at the ensuing Club meeting which considers the recommendation of the Board or Committee. RUNNER'S SALUTES THEIR FAMOUS - -

Am.Mex.Ch. RUNNER'S OUR OWN CHARISMA

(Ch. Eyleland Double or Nothing x Ch. Tesuque of Flying W)

CHARISMA is a record breaking bitch - - - - Number ONE in the Nation both years she was Specialed; BEST IN SHOW at the largest show ever won by a Whippet; Multi-Groups and winner of 60 Best of Breeds at her retirement.

We at Runner's hold her very dear!

She is the dam of many champions including Specialty, Group and Breed at Westminster . Dam of the 1978 Western Specialty Breed; grand-dam of the 1979 Mid-West Specialty Breed and dam of this year's Eastern Specialty Breed winner (picture of this dog in this issue).

This started it all - - - - Pictured with first Breed win, with breeder-owner- handler and the late breeder-judge, Pat Speight. She went on to a Group IV that day, to start her on her fabulous career.

At the 1980 Western Specialty, first time entered as a veteran, she won that and the Brood Bitch class and was a strong contender for the breed.

Charisma will be bred only once more in early 1981. Inquiries and reservations will be accepted for qualifying homes. A last chance to own a Charisma offspring that could be the following years Specialty winner.

RUNNER'S LOOKS TO THE FUTURE WITH GREAT PRIDE

- - We present -

RUNNER'S NOTORIOUS OF ARYAL

(Ch. Farvel's Whirlyson x Ch. Runner's My Own Celebrity)

A true combination of outstanding breeding - his dam is the litter sister to

Ch. Runner's Creme de la Creme, Breed winner of a Western Specialty and Westminster.

At his first AKC show, Whidbey Island K.C., Wash., 11/16/80, this 7 month old won a spectacular BOW for 5 points from the 6-9 Puppy class, handled by his breeder, Lila Groan. His permanent home will be at Runner's, where he joins - -

Runner's My Charima Classic (litter sister to The Continental), a red brindle and white, she is the true picture of her dam and will be a future producer of and "Charisma" line and look.

Misty Moor's Vogue of Runner's has come to us from Roberta Russ. Her sire is a new line for Runner's, Ch. Plumcreek Chimney Swift, out of Ch. Runner's Ravendune Misty Moor (dam of '79 Mid-West Specialty Breed winner). Black brindle and white, elegant 9 month old, yet to make her show debut.

With our fantastic young male, the Breed winner of the 1980 Eastern Specialty, Ch. Runner's He's The Continental, these four are the promise of excellence for the future of Runner's Whippets.

Stud service on a limited basis and puppies available occasionally. Information and pedigrees on request and inquiries always invited.
